A Gift

He had reserved this night several weeks in advance, along with a warning that he didn’t have much on the agenda. Still, I though, it must mean something.
He pulled into my driveway in his new Honda and my excitement increased. As always he opened the car door for me, walked around and got in. As we got onto the highway our conversation centered around what we had done that day and so forth. We drove for a while and then he asked how Chinese sounded for dinner. Right away I guessed what he had in mind. A fancy new restaurant had just been built and we were eager to try it. The meal was delicious and the company, delightful.
Back at home, he followed me into the house with a gift all wrapped up with a silver bow. Our journal was tucked under his arm. We made our way to the living room and sat in our usual spot. With a smile, he handed me the long mysterious package. “For you,” he said. Inside was a lovely plaque with the word agape’ carved into it. He made it himself and that made the gift even more special to me. I fingered the letters as I read the message on the back. He was so sweet! I felt a wave of gratitude sweep over me. This was a special friend indeed. The journal was placed into my hand to read later. It was also special and unique. My heart leapt for joy when I read the last line. “All these are the reason’s that I love you.”
