A friend of ours was attending Bob Jones University and we were missing him. Six of us arranged a trip to go and visit. It was 3:45 in the morning when he pulled into my driveway. Sleepy eyed but full of excitement I went out to meet him. We loaded my luggage and then drove to Walmart where we met the rest of the group. He drove for several hours and I stayed awake with him to keep him company. At daybreak the landscape was beautiful. Mist hung over the valleys as we wound our way through the mountains. We arrived at the campus safe and sound. That night at the hotel he unloaded my suitcase and put it beside my room. Such a simple act and yet, it was so thoughtful of him.
The next day was dreary and rain fell gently. However we decided to go to downtown Greenville. He offered to carry our umbrella. What a gentleman he is, I thought. We strolled down the sidewalks and hardly noticed the rain. A few interesting looking shops captured our attention and drew us inside. Farther into town we admired the water falls. Spring was just beginning to show its face. A few brilliant flowers dotted the town adding to its quaint charm.
The rain ceased for awhile and the others decided to continue shopping. He and I chose to walk alongside the river. We each talked about our dreams and goals for the future- a very blessed talk.
Sunday we packed up and headed home. We got to sit in the backseat and had a jolly time. At one point he mentioned reading something about a long line of men ready to fight for Christ, ready to defend the truth. Alongside these men was a line of women, standing by, eager to encourage.
“I hope and pray that I won’t be alone in my mission,” he said. My heart gave a little leap. I knew deep within that if I were called to stand by his side I would gladly do it.

My heart gives a little leap inside, still, to know that you are walking with me, ready to serve the High King’s command.
