Are you a generous person? Do you loathe freeloaders, or do you rejoice in the gifts of God, and in giving to others?
We should live in spirit of Giving for 3 reasons:
I. It is the spirit of God.
“For God so Loved the world that He gave.” Jesus, as the fullness of the Father’s glory, lived out that spirit of giving in all his years on earth. He gave in life, and much more in death. His dying breath of forgiveness in spite of the hatred he received was His most glorious gift of love. We should freely give in honor of His dying sacrifice, if for no other reason.
II. The Bible Enjoins It
We know that God has a desire for us to give; we can read many injunctions for giving in the new testament.
“By their approval of this service, they will glorify God because of… the generosity of your contribution for them and for all others” (2Corinthians 9:13).
“Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” (Luke 6:38)
You can give without loving, but you cannot love without giving. Why wait until a big need slaps you in the face?
