One day we found ourselves walking around a graveyard. However our conversation was not on the topic of death but rather life. Our life. In a matter of time our life as we knew it would be totally changed. As we strolled up and down the concrete paths that wound their way through the cool gravestones we discussed wedding related topics. When would we have it? Did we want it inside or outside? Would his dad be able to conduct the ceremony? He was full of good ideas. As we talked through these things I realized even more how precious this young man was to me. It delighted me that we had so many things in common. By the time we left for our next engagement we realized that we had been talking for four hours straight!
A few days later, we went to Wengerzine Gardens. As we got out of the car he reached in the backseat of his car and pulled out a very large, thin package. He tucked it under his arm the best he could and we started off down a trail. We discussed how our days went, as we walked. His package looked so big and awkward I offered to help carry it but he would not surrender it. My curiosity was heightened. What in the world was it? As we finished to loop, we settled down on a bench. His face gleamed as he presented the package to me. I carefully unwrapped it to find a massive cardboard envelope addressed to me. I turned it over and opened the snap that held the flap shut. Inside was a card every bit as large as the envelope and it was handmade. I glanced at him, he was grinning. He had put a lot of work into creating the card. It had humor and also sweetness. I was delighted. He offered me his arm and escorted me to the car. By the time he dropped me off at home, we had decided to have a fall wedding at the foot of a cross. To God be the glory!
