Who’s child is she? Ours or God’s? I’ve been thinking about this ever since I listened in on a conversation a few days ago. She is our child biologically, but in all reality she is God’s child. He was the one that created each hair, each intricate detail of her being. He is the one that not only created her body but also her spirit. We as parents had little involvement in her making, the rest was formed by God. He is truly her ultimate parent.
I had at least 4 people tell me today while we were grocery shopping, “She is so pretty!” One of those comments was even from a little girl. I smile and say “thank you.” It feels good to hear those compliments. We like them. But can we really take credit for who she looks? I think not. The glory should go to God and not us. He made her in her own unique person and gave her a unique personality.
Who am I to try and change who God created her to be. Sometimes I worry that she is to independent. She would much rather do her own thing than be confined to someones arms and would much rather explore than play with her cousin. This to is God’s doing. He has given her that independent nature for a reason. I’m not saying that we shouldn’t try to influence her life in positive ways or that we should never tell her no in fear of breaking her ‘spirit.’ It’s just good to be reminded that we must do our best to be godly parents and let God do the rest. I can’t force her to be a cook if her heart is in music. And so we must wait, watch, care and pray for the little people in our charge. God has a special plan for every life.
