Everyday life

The wind blows through the night and though the windows are shut the house grows very cool. We sleep peacefully under our mosquito nets. We use them more for pest control than mosquitoes. I can only imagine the curious little geckos that would come creeping around our heads at night. Perhaps they are not comfortable with investigating a sleeping human but I’d rather have the peace of mind that they can’t. While we slumber, the morning light comes into our windows, usually around 6:30. Brad gets up and gets ready to head to work. Soon the children are also awake and the day begins.

So far Brad has been spending all of his days in the hangar.

He has already done some big repairs.

The Kalene mission has a small book store where they sell Bibles, Christian books and school supplies. When they sell a Bible, they like to give the customer a handmade cloth tote bag to protect the Bible from dirt and grime. I have been asked to sew Bible tote bags and have spent the last few days experimenting with sewing techniques and styles. I wouldn’t say that sewing is a talent of mine but it rather fun.

I have also been given the task of being the book store’s auditor. I am in charge of counting the Kwacha from the book sales and keeping track of all the totals. Four days a week the book room manager comes to our gate every morning and I give him the keys to the book store, a bag of change and a notebook. He returns it once the day is finished at the store and I go over the numbers and check that everything lines up. I am really excited to be doing something that helps out around here.

Africa is such a beautiful country! The photographer in me is rejoicing because the evening light here is so stunning!! It feels like being wrapped in a warm hug. Everything turns golden and the beauty of Africa comes alive. Our God is the author of beauty. Even in the dirt and dust there is beauty to behold.

So fun to get glimpses of your life! All those little jobs that someone has to do – God likes for us to be willing and busy and He will provide the jobs and the blessings. I’m really glad you have mosquito nets – the thought of ever sleeping with geckos and what not lurking around would be hard! πŸ™‚

I’m just curious. Hope all is well with you.
I notice your sewing is outside.
Does it rain much over there?
    Hoping you’re safe and blessed.

We are doing well! We are have just over 2 weeks left before we return home. Yes, I enjoy sewing outside in the mornings. It gets into the low 90’s in the afternoon. Right now, it is the dry season in Zambia. It hasn’t rained at all since we’ve been here. The rainy season starts around the end of October/November. They do get a few rains before the rainy season begins, but we haven’t had any yet! Blessings to you too, Jerry.
