These last 3 days have been such a blessing. We spent them surrounded by our MMS family and listening to a missionary pilot/mechanic speak about the Lord. Paul Dye’s testimony speaks over and over about the power of our God. He shared story after story of events that happened in his life and each one had a similar theme. Belief.
One thing Paul said struck me. “Unless I’m willing to believe God, those in darkness will never hear.” So many of his stories were of him coming to a point of giving up what he was humanly capable of and letting God work through him. By having belief and faith in God, Paul was and still is doing the Lord’s work in mighty ways. Another thing thing he said was this, “My flesh and the devil will always contradict the Word, while the Spirit’s calling will not.” I know that most of us already realize that and understand that, but for me it was such a good reminder. When thoughts creep into my mind like doubt, worry, fear, human reasoning, whatever it might be, I can compare it to the Word and know that it’s not from the Lord.
All that being said, how well do I know the Word of God? Do I devour it every day or do I let that precious yet powerful Word sit untouched day after day? I want to challenge myself and you to ask the Lord for a deep hunger for the Word. Not just to sit down and read a chapter or two and then get up and walk away unchanged, but to desire to read; to crave the Word. I want to challenge you, the next time you have a bit of down time, don’t sit down with your phone in hand ready to update your status or check Instagram. If you’re a reader, put away the novel or magazine. If you’re movie watcher, leave the screen off. Sit and reach for your Bible. Sit in the presence of the Lord. Just sit and let Him speak to your heart. Let Him guide you.
Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. {Romans 10:17}

I loved this convicting post!!
I need this encouragement today. Summer time is a time I’m less involved in scheduled Bible Studies and unfortunately I find myself spending less and less time with Jesus and The Word and more and more time just shooting up arrow prayers all day long. Thanks for the gentle prodding to my spirit!
Blessings,
Lisa
The last sentence you wrote, the quotation from Romans 10:17 suggests to me that you have been a student of Glenn’s.
When I was young, there was a minister from our district that usually ended his talks with “Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.” Taken from 1 Thessalonians 5:21. Needless to say, that stuck with me.
Indeed, I can still hear him say it. 🙂
