Today was mostly a day of playing in the sun. We are getting ready to start another major refurbishment project, so we were rearranging airplanes to make space to work. By the time it was finished, we had the ramp full of airplanes, and that was less than half of them.
The airplane we are getting ready to start has been sitting idle for several years, and is need of some help. We are going to do some structural repairs, a complete repaint, and some avionics (instruments and radios) work. Right now it is a not-very-pretty yellow, and we will be making it a slightly-better-looking yellow. Someone today called it the “canary”. When we are finished, it will serve on the field in the Philippines.
On Tuesday, Tim Obarow and I went to the Pittsburgh, PA area to install the tail on a Piper Comanche. The owner had taken the tail off and brought it to us back in February, and we overhauled it. I have written about the overhaul work in the past. The installation went very smoothly; it is an older airplane, but very good-looking.
We also have been working on some local airplanes. Wednesday, I did an oil change on a local Diamond DA-40.
Monday Tim and I finished an Annual Inspection we did last week on a local Cessna R182. Part of the annual inspection involves testing the landing gear (if it is retractable). This style of landing gear looks kind of gangly and awkward when it is in mid-swing.
That’s the breakdown on what I’ve been working on in the hangar. Unfortunately, it is difficult to really get a full picture through a blog. To really understand what goes on, you ought to come and visit is. We have visitors frequently, and you are welcome to stop by!
