Time lapsed: 1 month

The one month mark has past. We’ve successfully been very well acquainted with the incredible chigger population here. Our eyes have seen the astounding beauty of the local Scarlet Macaw parrot and we’ve drank deeply from a fresh coconut, cut right off of a tree. Our meals have converted to rice and beans 80% of the time and we’ve learned a handful of words in Mosquito.

This month has been very full, busy and challenging. There are so many projects that need addressed here on site. Water supply for the village. New floors, doors, ceilings, paint in the clinic. The apartments, designed for medical teams need facelifts and new beds. The hangar is wide open at this point in time and we find village pigs sleeping amongst the things in the storage room. It has been 4+ years since missionaries have lived here in Rus Rus and a lot of things were new 30 years ago, so everything feels like its showing its age. Hence we’ve been very busy trying to get things somewhat repaired and also trying to get the houses ready for the other two families who will both be here by the end of October as of now.

As busy as we’ve been, we are always trying to connect with the people in the village. Brad goes to the weekly village workday and spends a few hours chopping down shrubs with his machete. Of course, Sunday’s we go to the village church and worship with those who come. Work and helping is good, but connections and ties are also invaluable. We’ve been blessed with the new friends we’ve made and the hospitality of the village. God is going to do great and mighty things here in this village that used to be very busy, but now sees a lot less activity. Here is to the mighty working of God to bring restoration, vision and the pure Gospel to the people in the region.
