“Either we are adrift in chaos or we are individuals, created, loved, upheld and placed purposefully, exactly where we are. Can you believe that? Can you trust God for that?”
-Elizabeth Elliot
I came across that quote recently and it really struck a chord. We are in the middle of preparing to move east out to la Mosquitia in 5 weeks. The logistics of moving there looks very daunting. Because it is so remote most of our things will need to be bought in a city on the north coast and shipped by boat to Puerto Lempira and then driven 6 hours to the village where we will be living. It would be much simpler if there was a road that connected the main part of Honduras to la Mosquitia, but none exist.
For that reason we were hoping to be able to relocate our base to a location to a more central location that is more accessible. Getting groceries, airplane parts, & supplies is not an easy thing to do in la Mosquitia. Brad and some others have been working hard to try to get the process moving forward on the new location, but the door just isn’t opening at this point. For me its been hard to accept the change of plans, and getting myself prepared has taken some time. Hence the quote, “Upheld and purposefully placed.” Getting over the disappointment and looking toward the unknown has proven challenging. When we returned to Honduras we knew that we would probably be living in la Mosquitia but I was still clinging to the hope that we could get the new base up and going and save the hassle of moving all the way out there. With only a generator and the closest small grocery store 6 hours away, I was having a hard time getting excited about living there. Yet the Lord has taken my stubborn will and has been working mightily in my heart though to prepare me for the changes. Indeed, we are purposefully placed by a sovereign God.
Once I worked through the grieving process and became pliable to His calling He even has given me excitement to be there. With 8 moves in the last 2 years, I’m ready to have a place to call home. I’m excited to have chickens, a garden and more importantly I’m excited to become integrated into the culture of the Mosquito people and to be the Lord’s hand and feet as He opens the doors of opportunity. May His love be before us, behind us, all around us.
