Merry Christmas

“Christmas is everyone’s favorite time of year.” someone once told me. In Honduran culture it is the same. Once the calendar flips from September to October, people begin pulling out their Christmas decorations. Parties are planned and as Christmas gets closer, food is bought and tamales are prepared. Honduras, as a whole, does more celebrating on Christmas Eve than on Christmas Day. Usually in our village, that means having an evening church service, enjoying some dramas, lots of singing, and staying up until midnight. This year with all the weddings a few days before, a lot of people were gone. It was a quiet Christmas, but we enjoyed the family time together.

We had our community Christmas party a bit earlier this year. Sadly none of the gifts for the kids have arrived yet due to prolonged bad weather on the coast. However we still had a fun day with games, food, songs and every child got a little bag with some small things like candy, crayons etc.

Every year a group of ladies work all morning to prepare the food for the party. I love watching them work and they make such tasty food. We had pork chops, yucca and rice with vegetables.

We played games

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6

“Porque nos ha nacido un niño, se nos ha concedido un hijo; la soberanía reposará sobre sus hombros y se le darán estos nombres: Consejero Admirable, Dios Fuerte, Padre Eterno, Príncipe de Paz.” Isaías 9:6

Sending love to you all!
