Home, for now

Our arrival to Kalene also means new living arrangements for the next 3 months. We live on the compound here at Mission Flight Services. Our front stone path deposits us directly on the taxi way that leads to the runway. Our new home is comfortable, clean and safe. We share it with the local geckos and the ever present colony of ants. We can live with that.

Our living room is stocked with lots of missionary biography’s and good reads. I’m thankful that it also contains a rocking chair. Our house has concrete floors, which is very practical from the aspect of cleaning the daily dust and grime.

Dinning room, the place where all crumbs are dropped. Every meal requires a through cleaning of the table and chairs. The floor must be swept clean and then mopped, and still the ants will find crumbs. They are harmless enough.

The kitchen, have I mentioned before that I love big windows and lots of light? Our house has louver windows, which, you guessed it, I open wide every day. I love the abundant light and warm breeze flowing through the house. The kitchen also houses the washing machine. I’m so thankful to have one to use, it seems like we always have dirty clothes.

The baby’s room is the home base of the geckos. A crib was located and assembled in anticipation of our arrival.

Big sister’s room, she brought her blanket, lamb and bear all the way across the ocean to give her room familiarity.

Our bedroom, a little sanctuary for us.

I’m thankful to have indoor plumbing and a bathtub for the kids.

Now you’ve taken the tour and can picture how we live. Simple, yet extravagant compared to the little huts that I’ve seen around here. We have a lot to be thankful for.

We’ve learned over the years with our many moves that a house is where we reside, and our loved ones make it a home! It looks like you are very blessed. Thank you for the tour!

So fun to see your home – looks very nice and ‘homey’:)!! Some things sound familiar to Haiti, including the geckos and ants. We kind of liked the geckos, the ants, not so much:), but, put in perspective as you appreciate the blessings, they are really just a small nuisance. Love and prayers –

Your house is lovely, very livable. It reminds me of mission houses in Belize.
The ants can be in the way, right? The geckos just run away and make quacking noises.
Thank you for the tour of your home, it looks cheery!
    God bless!
