“Take my life and let it be consecrated to thee. Take my moments and my days, let them flow in ceaseless praise.”
A month ago we got back from traveling Honduras. It was such a blessed trip. We spent the first 4 days enjoying some family time and relaxing. We rented an airbnb with a kitchen so we were able to do some of our own cooking and ate suppers out. I was shocked to be back in civilization and be able to download an audio book in 20 seconds instead of 3 days!
Lillia was able to learn how to snorkel with Brad and they got to explore some of the coral reefs. I tried it a little but never got comfortable enough to venture out very far. We had studied Marine Biology prior to the trip so Lillia was thrilled to be able to point out different coral that she had just learned about.
Following our time of vacation, we were picked up by a fellow co worker and his wife who lives in the interior.
We traveled to a missionary hospital close to La Ceiba. There, we were able to meet up with a dear family that we studied Spanish with, make new friends, and we got our teeth cleaned. Getting our teeth cleaned never is something we look forward to but this time it was such a blessing because it’s not something that’s available in Rus Rus.
Our next stop was another missionary clinic up in the mountains around La Ceiba. Having good connections with other clinics and potential partners is such an important part of missionary life. They gave us a tour and also gave us some seasoned advice about how we can improve our own mission. The trip back down the mountain was super bumpy but oh, so beautiful! We spent the night in La Ceiba and the following day I shopped for a lot of groceries and things that we can’t find in our part of the country. Brad dropped me off and he went to some hardware stores to purchase building materials and household supplies. In the late afternoon after our shopping was done we dropped off our purchases at the dock so it could hitch a ride on the next boat to Puerta Limperia. Once it arrives we will take the 9ish hour drive round trip to pick it up.
In the next phase we passed through San Pedro Sula and headed west into a part of the country that we had never visited before. Santa Barbara is very mountainous and stunning. There we visited a third missionary clinic and stayed with the family who runs it. We had a very good time of fellowship and they also showed us their water purification operation. We’ve drank a lot of water from those big blue jugs in Honduras and I’ve always been interested to see the process.
Next up, Siguatepeque! Sigua will always hold a warm place in my heart. It was there where we learned the language, the culture and made our first friends here. We were only there a short time, but we were able to visit the language school and say “hola” to the teachers. It was so good to see them again. We visited our favorite ice cream spot and I got the mango ice cream that I had been craving. Then we hit the road again, this time heading to Tegucigalpa. Brad and our co worker had some business to do in the city. We did a little more shopping, and then went back to La Ceiba where we said goodbye one of the families on our team. They are heading out for a furlough/maternity leave and we wanted to say bye. Our final destination, Run Rus.
Being out felt SO good. Our family really needed some refreshment and time alone without work interfering. For me, though the vacation part of our trip was a highlight, I almost enjoyed the traveling and fellowship more. We met so many amazing people and saw some incredible views. I’m so looking forward to see how God will use those relationship connections to farther His kingdom.
