Day after day

Daily life. “The activities and experiences that constitute a person’s normal existence.” [Oxford Dictionary]

What does it entail? Exercise, college, work or goals? Changing diapers, mopping a floor, Bible reading? What about the daily life things that we take for granted? Like each breath or having a meal? Sometimes its so easy to get deeply involved in our tasks for the day that we tend to forget to be thankful for the “necessities” or rather the things that actually keep us alive. For the last few weeks I’ve been doing a gratefulness challenge and it has really been a blessing to me. I keep a hair tie on my wrist and whenever I feel grumpy with a situation or have an ungrateful spirit, I stop for a moment and identify the thing that I’m feeling bad about and change my mindset to being thankful for that thing/person. The next thing is to move the hair tie to my other wrist because the challenge is to see if I can go 21 days without moving it. The challenge is supposed to be a reminder not to complain, sigh or to have an ungrateful spirit, but I’ve also found it to be very helpful not just to remind myself to be grateful but to stop and give thanks to God. Its been a great learning tool, showing me the areas in my life that need more work. Daily life happens, there is no getting around it except, well, to die. As long as the Lord has us here on earth, let’s do His work wholeheartedly and also remember to be thankful for the “necessities.” Take time to thank Him for your every breath, every sip of clean water that you drink, every day that you have an able body and mind, for the Bible beside your bed, and for His great love.
