Canoeing

Canoe trip was something we both looked forward to. It was a time to be with friends and also a quiet retreat to spend time with God. In years past we had always came on the buses, but this time we decided to drive ourselves. The drive was a good one filled with delightful conversation. As we pulled into the campground he asked the big question. “Will you canoe with me?”
I had known that the question would come up and had been thinking hard on my answer. Indeed I certainly wanted to canoe with him, my only concern was modesty. Canoeing down a river with many young people meant two things. Lots of tipping and wet clingy clothes. I so desperately wanted to protect his heart and mind. I’d been praying about it and felt that it was okay to go.

It all worked out. We were some of the last ones on the lake, due to the shortage of canoes. We waited 45 minutes for our canoes, even the die hard tippers had moved on. He was a gentleman and didn’t tip our canoe despite the violent rocking at times. At the end of our route he even dropped me off at the dock. God had blessed me with such a gentleman.
