Sakeji School Tour

Blog_Photo-0958     A few weekends ago we went to visit a local mission school. It was founded by Dr. Fisher back in 1925. He was the missionary that started the mission here at Kalene as well. His inspiration for the school was that the missionary children of Zambia could go to school here in the country instead of going back to their home countries without their families. It has had many ups and down and near closings in the past but currently it is thriving!

The students live at the school the whole term and go home between terms. On average, their terms are about two months with a four to six week break. The Flight Service flies many of the students to and from school at the beginning and the end of terms.

In the rainy season the ground becomes so muddy, they decided to build a covered area for sports. When funds come in they are hoping to pour a concrete floor.

Blog_Photo-0986The school was built along the Sakeji river and during very heavy rains sometimes there will be flooding. Fortunately, the buildings are up away from the river. In the past, they used this river for washing all the laundry. Thanks to technology, they now have commercial washing machines to wash all the students laundry.

Blog_Photo-1012Our tour ended at the river where we caught up with the kids. Every Friday they get to play in the river and then have story time along the riverbank.
