A week has gone by already since we left the States. We had a great trip, and everything went smoothly. No traffic, no delays, no lost luggage. I had to pause and thank God for His blessings, for a minute we thought we had a suitcase missing but there it was tucked away in a corner. We were very warmly welcomed by our co workers, Stephen who had came to pick us up. Also waiting with balloons, Esau and his family. They are dear friends of ours and also co workers. Getting back in country was a nice transition. The following day we sent some luggage to the dock to come around the coast by boat and loaded up the MAG airplane. Because of impending weather we didn’t spend as much time in the city as we had hoped but about two hours after takeoff we landed in Rus Rus only minutes before a torrential rainstorm hit.
The first few days were cleaning the house, giving our kitties some much needed love and attention and catching up on things.
Sunday we went to church and got back into teaching Sunday school and a kids discipleship class in the afternoon. Last week Honduras celebrated Children’s Day and so there was a piñata on Sunday too. We had a huge turnout, probably largely attributed to the piñata and the promise of candy to come. I’m so thankful that we get to be here serving these people. Five years here in Rus Rus goes along way towards making meaningful relationships and having the trust from them to be able to speak into their lives in a credible way. It’s always our prayer that God will give us wisdom to be able to give good council.
Furlough for me was so very refreshing. We really needed that time away to pray, process and just rest. I think we are better people now because of our time away. You know the saying, “Absence makes the heart grow fonder,” every time we leave for a season and come back that phrase absolutely rings true. Whereas we had been looking at all the problems with exhaustion and lidded eyes, I feel like now our focus is sharp again. Our capacity to extend compassion has been refreshed as well. Sometimes it can be so easy go through the motions but not really be giving from a heart that is in well rested and dwelling in the Lord. That is something that I pray for. Here is to the next season!
