Experiences from school

We’ve been having classes for 5 weeks now. At first it was awkward, our teachers speak only Spanish with a few English words now and then. We would sit there smiling and nodding while trying desperately trying to comprehend what they were saying. Now, we can understand a lot more of what our teachers are saying and can even have beginner level conversations. In the midst of our learning we’ve made a lot of mistakes, the other day, I was asking a teacher where the soap was, only I was saying soup. She looked at me with a confused look on her face and rubbed her stomach. Once we straightened it out we had a good laugh. Later, I stated that our baby was ten monkeys old.

Every once in awhile our school will take a field trip. It gives us a chance to practice our Spanish outside of the comfort of the school, and also opportunities to help those in the community.

Two weeks ago we spent a few hours at a daycare. Each of the students had to come up with a game to play with the kids and then explain in Spanish how to play.

Tuesday we took a trip to a part of town where there is a community of homeless people. We took a truck bed full of water, rice, blankets etc. I’m anxious to be a good student and quick learner so that I can more effectively serve these people of Honduras.

Prayer request:

A prayer quest for our family would be that the process to get residency in Honduras would go quickly.
