A much needed rest

Click. The seat belt snapped into place. I adjusted by headphones, wondering why the ear pieces wasn’t quite long enough to reach my ears. “Its Brad’s headset. They must be sized for him.” I reasoned. I turned my attention to Elsie and made sure her belt was securely fastened. A few moments later the airplane engine rumbled to life, and the cool morning breeze filled the cabin. The sun shone in the windows warming our cool skin. Rus Rus hardly stirred as we taxied to the end of the runway and prepared for take off. For me this day was monumental because since we arrived in Rus Rus back in July I had only left once for the small port town, that lies 5 hours away, and visited a few of the nearly villages. Getting to go somewhere was a much needed thing. The view was amazing, and eventually after I realized that I was wearing the headphones upside down the quiet was also amazing.

Nearing La Ceiba

It was so fun to see la mosquitia from the air. We flew over carpets of nothing but dense trees. Nothing out there but trees and more trees. As we flew north and neared the coast, mountains appeared and the landscape changed dramatically. Towns, roads, fields. Wait! Was that a power line?! A Walmart?! Restaurants? I had almost forgotten that these things exist.

We were so blessed to spend a few days in La Ceiba in the mountains and saw some incredible views. A sparkling river running from the mountains, a mountain waterfall, enormous rocks edging the river and great places to do rafting. Pico Bonito is an absolutely breathtaking place. We spent the time there soaking up some rest and just taking a much needed break from the daily grind of living in the jungle. One of the highlights there was a chocolate factory that we were able to tour.

Brad’s parents flew in and we picked them up at the airport and then we spent a few days at the beach with them before bringing them back to Rus Rus to see our home.

I’m so thankful you were able to get some rest and take some time to get out! I can only imagine how “housebound” you may have been feeling. What a grand time with Grandparents! Much love!
